Wellesley Athletics Announces 2016 Hall of Fame Class

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College Athletics will induct the four newest members of the Wellesley Athletics Hall of Fame at the 2016 Induction Ceremony as part of Wellesley Weekend on Saturday, October 15, 2016. The event will begin with a reception at 5:30 PM, followed by the induction ceremony at 7:00 PM in the Alumnae Hall Ballroom.

Wellesley Athletics Hall of Fame members exemplify the College's longstanding conviction that varsity athletics play an important role in the development of leadership abilities, the cultivation of character and discipline, and the resolve to strive for excellence in every aspect of life. In celebration of the spirit and achievement of Wellesley scholar-athletes and those who have inspired and supported them, alumnae athletes Nadine Netter Levy '66, Barbara Morry Fraumeni '72, and Jessica Gosnell '90 will join former coach and program contributor Ann S. Batchelder as the members of the Class of 2016.

Nadine Netter Levy '66 has enjoyed a competitive tennis career that has spanned four decades and includes accolades at the collegiate and international levels. The Eastern Women's College Tournament champion in 1962, she also earned collegiate titles at the Eastern Intercollegiate Champion and New England Intercollegiate Women's Tennis Championship in 1965. Levy advanced to the second round of Wimbledon in 1968 and also played at the U.S. Open and the French, German Italian Championships. At the 1997 Maccabiah Games, she earned a gold medal in singles and a gold and silver medal in doubles, capturing titles in the ladies over 40 and over 50 divisions. She continues to play the game today.

Barbara Morry Fraumeni '72 is a key part of Wellesley's storied history in competitive rowing. Fraumeni rowed in the first women's national championship in 1966, competing as a member of the Seattle Tennis Club before going on to compete in subsequent nationals as a member of the Lake Washington Rowing Club (LWRC) (Correction: An earlier version of the release stated that Fraumeni competed for LWRC at the first women's national championship). The recipient of LWRC's Aldina Nash Award in 1968, she would go on to win five national lightweight rowing championships from 1967-1969. At the international level, she served as an alternate on the United States Women's National Team. She continues to be active in the sport today, serving as an umpire at Boston's world-famous Head Of The Charles Regatta since 1990.

Jessica Gosnell '90 was a two-sport standout in Field Hockey and Lacrosse at Wellesley in the late 1980s. Gosnell served as a team captain for both the field hockey and lacrosse programs, helping the squads to a combined 100 wins over four years. She was an All-Seven Sisters selection in field hockey in 1989  during a senior season that included 16 goals. Her collegiate prowess on the lacrosse field included multiple regional and national All-American honors and NEW8 (NEWMAC) All-Conference selections in 1989-90. Following her time at Wellesley, she would go on to represent the the United States as a member of the U.S. National Under-24 team.

Ann S. Batchelder was the first sport-specific faculty member hired at Wellesley when she was hired to teach squash in 1970. At the time, she was one of the top-five nationally ranked players in the nation and the top-ranked player in Massachusetts, winning several tournaments including the the Boston and District Championship and the Massachusetts Mixed Doubles Squash Championship in the mid 1970s. Appointed permanent Associate Chair of the PERA Department in the 1980's, Batchelder became Professor Emerita 2008 and was awarded the Wellesley Community Service Award in 1996 and the Friend of Athletics Linda K. Vaughan Exceptional Service Award in 2015. She continues to be actively involved with the department today, lending her support to the annual Ann S. Batchelder Invitational at Nehoiden Golf Course.
