Wellesley Field Hockey Dominates in Win Over New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. -- The Wellesley College field hockey team scored seven first half goals en route to an 8-0 victory over the New England College Pilgrims Tuesday evening. With the win the Blue remain undefeated on the season improving to 2-0, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 1-2 overall.

The Blue wasted little time getting on the board as Anissa Sridhar rebounded in a shot from Hannah Flesch just 2:38 into play.  Wellesley extended its lead to 2-0 just minutes later as Nathalie Gruet netted the first of three goals on the evening, scoring unassisted at the 4:40 mark.

Wellesley continued to dominate much of the first half offense tacking on five more goals over the remaining minutes, including two by Nikki Sharkin and another from Gruet.

In the second half, the Blue picked up where they left off, holding the Pilgrims without a shot in the period. Gruet then closed out the Blue scoring, adding her final score of the day at the 46:04 mark to give Wellesley the 8-0 victory.

Wellesley finished the evening with the 30-0 advantage in shots, also holding a dominating 15-1 advantage in corners.

Gruet ended her evening with three goals and an assist, while Sharkin scored twice for the Blue. Sridhar, Vellanki, and Lallie Lukens recorded solo goals, while Flesch added an assist in the win.

Picking up the win in goal for Wellesley was Becky Hamilton, who did not need to make a save to earn the victory. Hamilton split time with Lucy Hurlock, who also remained untested in goal.  NEC's Courtney Duquette saw the majority of time in net for the Pilgrims finishing with 15 saves.

NEC returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 7th when they host in-state foe Keene State College. Wellesley will hit the field again on Saturday, Sept. 7th when they host non-conference opponent Bridgewater State University.
