Gruet Scores Twice as #19 Field Hockey Tops Conn. College

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Junior Nathalie Gruet scored a pair of first period goals as the #19 Wellesley College field hockey team posted 2-1 a win over Connecticut College on Wednesday evening.

The win improves Wellesley to 7-1 on the season, while Conn. dips to 3-2. The Blue have now won four straight games.

Gruet's two goals came within three minutes of each other, both coming at the end of the first period. In the 28th minute, she finished a baseline pass from Hannah Flesch for a 1-0 Wellesley advantage. In the 31st minute, Gruet scored from the top of the circle, this time on a pass from Meghan Peterson to make it 2-0.

The Camels cut the lead to 2-1 early in the second half, as Maggie Schroeder scored unassisted from the top of the circle.

Schroeder's goal was one of just two second half shots for the hosts, as Wellesley shut them down the rest of the way, sealing the 2-1 win.

For the game, the Blue held distinct advantages in both shots (14-5) and penalty corners (14-3) controlling play much of the way.

Wellesley's Brit Mscisz needed four saves to earn the win for the Blue, while her Conn. College counterpart, Becca Napolitano made an impressive 12 saves in the loss.

Wellesley returns to NEWMAC play on Saturday, in a battle of nationally-ranked teams. The Blue will travel to Mount Holyoke to take on the #20 Lyons in a 1:00pm clash.
