Blue Field Hockey Cruises Past Gordon

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Another dominating performance led the Wellesley field hockey team to a 7-0 win over visiting Gordon College on Saturday at Wellesley. The win improves the Blue to 2-0, while the Fighting Scots fall to 2-3.

The hosts scored early and often in this one, building a 5-0 lead in the first half. Courtney Peterson got things started for the Blue, while Alex Azzi scored a pair of first half goals. Nathalie Gruet and Nikki Sharkin also found the back of the cage in the first stanza.

Wellesley added two more in the second half, as goals from Mary Lemay and Hannah Flesch set the final to 7-0 Blue.

Gordon had a pair of breakaway opportunities in the second half, but was unable to get off a shot. The Blue ended the game out-shooting the Scots, 23-0, while holding a 17-0 advantage in corners.

Azzi's two goals led the Blue, while Flesch and Peterson each added two-point games.
