#13 Wellesley Field Hockey Topples Wesleyan, 6-1

WELLESLEY, Mass. — The 13th-ranked Wellesley College field hockey team rolled to another victory, topping visiting Wesleyan University, 6-1, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The win lifts the Blue to 4-0 on the season, while the Cardinals dip to 1-2.

Wellesley senior Nathalie Gruet and junior Anissa Sridhar each boasted four-point games. Gruet scored three times and added an assist, while Sridhar scored once with three helpers. Also contributing to the Blue offense, junior Hannah Flesch scored twice, while senior Lallie Lukens added an assist.

Wesleyan's lone goal came on a penalty stroke from junior Hannah Plappert in the 56th minute.

Wellesley doubled up on shots against the Cardinals, 22-11, including a 12-5 advantage in the first half. The Blue also piled on a 16-7 lead in penalty corners.

Wellesley got the scoring started in the 8th-minute, as Gruet converted a feed from Sridhar after a broken penalty corner. The Blue then pushed it to 2-0 in the 12th-minute, as a nice passing play up the right side of the field ended with Sridhar again finding Gruet for the score. Wellesley added three more goals between the 29th and 35th minutes, two from Flesch and one from Sridhar, taking a 5-0 lead into the break.

The hosts pushed the lead to 6-0 in the 53rd minute, with Gruet finishing out her hat trick on a penalty stroke. Wesleyan then dented the scoreboard with Plappert's penalty conversion in the 56th minute.

Wellesley sophomore Lucy Hurlock got the start, making a pair of saves in 35 scoreless minutes. Senior Becky Hamilton wrapped up the game for the Blue, playing the second half and making two stops. For Wesleyan, Sara Grundy played 44 minutes in the cage, stopping five shots. Sophomores Sarah Prickett and Claire Edelman also saw action between the pipes for the Cardinals, with Edelman adding a save.

Wellesley is back in action on Saturday at noon hosting a non-conference tilt against Husson. Wesleyan next plays on Friday, traveling to Babson for a 6:00pm game.
