#9 Wellesley Field Hockey Tops Babson, 4-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Nathalie Gruet and Alex Azzi both scored a pair of goals to lift ninth-ranked Wellesley College Field Hockey to a 4-0 victory over Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday afternoon at the Wellesley Outdoor Fields Complex.

Wellesley improves to 11-1 on the season and 4-0 in NEWMAC play; Babson drops to 8-5 (3-1 NEWMAC), following their first conference loss of the season.

Azzi got the Blue on the board at 22:49 of the first, tipping a shot from Hannah Flesch past Babson goalie Kayla Costa for her first goal of the game. Flesch would add a second assist in the second half, also recorded a two-point day for the Blue-- who remain unbeaten at home this season.

Costa finished the contest with 13 saves for the Beavers, as the Blue held a 24-1 edge in shots and 17-1 edge in shots on goal. Wellesley also held a 9-1 advantage in penalty corners. Wellesley's Lucy Hurlock earned the shutout, going the distance in the cage without being tested.

With 1:49 left before the half, Gruet took a feed from Flesch before turning and firing the ball past Costa to give the Blue a 2-0 advantage. Gruet would add her second marker of the game at 38:32 of the second, converting on a penalty stroke opportunity to make the score 3-0.

Azzi then capped off the day for the Blue, scoring her second goal at 51:31 on an assist from Gruet.

Wellesley will return to NEWMAC action on Saturday at 5:00 PM at WPI. Babson will also continue conference play on Saturday when they travel to Smith at 12 noon.
