Gruet Named NFHCA Regional Player of the Year; Wellesley Lands Five on All-Region Teams

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Led by New England East Region Player of the Year Nathalie Gruet, Wellesley College field hockey placed five players on the 2014 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III New England East All-Region team. For Gruet, the award is her second consecutive Regional Player of the Year honor.  

Joining Gruet on the All-Region first team are senior Meghan Peterson and junior Anissa Sridhar. Senior Lallie Lukens and junior Hannah Flesch were selected to the all-region second team.

Gruet, who also earned first-team All-Region honors for the third straight season, was named the 2014 NEWMAC Player of the Year after registering a conference leading 21 goals and 11 assists for 53 points during the 2014 season. The Acton, Mass. native was also selected to the NEWMAC first team for the fourth consecutive season.

Peterson, a native of Glastonbury, Conn., garners her second consecutive all-region first team selection. The NEWMAC Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player, she recently was named to her second consecutive NEWMAC All-Conference first team. The senior defender guided the Blue to nine shutouts this season and a 0.64 goals against average. She finished the year with 13 points on four goals and five assists. 

Sridhar makes her first appearance on the all-region first team after being selected as a member of the all-region second team after last season. She scored 11 goals, including two game-winners, and added 10 assists, for 32 points this season. Sridhar was also named to the NEWMAC All-Conference first team for the first time this season.

Rockville, Maryland native Hannah Flesch earned her second consecutive selection to the all-region second team. Flesch, the Blue's second leading-scorer with 18 goals and seven assists on the season, was third in the NEWMAC in scoring this season. Flesch has also earned NEWMAC All-Conference second team honors in back-to-back seasons. 

Lukens, a native of Dakar, Senegal, earns her first all-region honor in her final season in Blue. The Blue senior scored 9 points on a pair of goals and five assists to earn a spot on the all region second team.

The 2014 Wellesley Field Hockey team won both the NEWMAC Championship and advanced to the elite eight of the NCAA Tournament for the second season in-a-row. The Blue went 19-3, setting a program record for wins in a season, breaking the previous program-best mark of 18 wins set just last season.
