Sridhar, Sharkin Lead No. 10 Field Hockey to 4-0 Victory over Husson

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Senior Anissa Sridhar (London, Ontario, Canada) scored a pair of goals and junior Nikki Sharkin (Summit, N.J.) added a pair of assists as No. 10 Wellesley College field hockey cruised to a 4-0 victory over visiting Husson University in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon at Wellesley's Turf Field. The Blue earned their first victory of the season while the Eagles dropped to 0-3.

Sridhar opened the scoring, tallying the eventual game-winning goal with an unassisted marker at 14:59 of the first. Blue junior Courtney Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.) doubled the Wellesley advantage before halftime, scoring her first goal of the season at 23:19, as the hosts took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Wellesley held a 14-0 advantage in shots in the first half and a 26-0 advantage overall. The Blue also earned 15 penalty corners in the game.

The Blue added two more goals in the second half, as first year Rachel Hwang (Campbell, Calif.) redirected an attempt from Sharkin at 57:29 to score the first collegiate goal of her career. Sridhar and Sharkin then combined to score the final Wellesley goal at 59:44. Sharkin took a big sweep from the top of the circle that the senior forward tipped passed Husson goalkeeper Anne Marie Provencal (Skowhegan, Maine) to make the score 4-0.

Provencal had an outstanding afternoon for the Eagles, making 15 saves on 19 Wellesley shots on goal. Junior Whitney Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) and senior Kayla Royer (Creen, Maine) also chipped in on defense for Husson, as each recorded a defensive save.

Wellesley junior goalkeeper Lucy Hurlock (Needham, Mass.) earned her first victory of the season, starting the contest before giving way to first year Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.) for the final 8:11 of the second half.

Wellesley returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, September 9, at 4:30 PM when they host Bridgewater State. Husson will return home to host Saint Joseph's (Maine) at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 7.
