No. 10 Wellesley Field Hockey Tops Bridgewater St., 4-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Anissa Sridhar (London, Ontario, Canada) recorded her first career hat trick to lead No. 10 Wellesley College field hockey to a 4-0 victory over Bridgewater St. on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue improve to 2-0 with their second non-conference victory, while Bridgewater St. drops to 2-1 on the year.

Sridhar scored a pair of goals in the first half as Wellesley jumped to a 3-0 advantage before the break. The senior forward redirected a drive from first year Cecie Negron (Midlothian, Va.) at 8:12 to score the first goal of the game. The opening marker would turn out to be the game-winner; as Sridhar tallied her second game-winning goal in as many contests this season.

Wellesley first year Rachel Hwang (Campbell, Calif.) made the Blue advantage 2-0, sweeping in a rebound to score her second goal of the season 14:57 into the first. Sridhar then found the back of the cage for the second time, unleashing a hard shot from just inside the arc to beat Bridgewater St. goalkeeper Kaylyn Allahyarian (Norwell, Mass.) and make the score 3-0 at 21:55.

Allahyarian made eight saves on 12 Wellesley shots on goal, playing the full 70 minutes in the cage for the Bears.

Blue goalkeepers Lucy Hurlock (Needham, Mass.) and Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.) combined to hold the Bears scoreless, making four saves. Hurlock turned aside three shots in the first half before Connelly recorded her first career save in the second half.

Sridhar scored the only goal of the second half, tallying her fifth goal of the season on a breakaway, to complete her hat trick with less than fifteen minutes remaining in the game.

Wellesley will head to Wesleyan (Conn.) for their first road game of the season on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 PM. Bridgewater St. will travel to Southern Maine for a 1:00 PM contest on Saturday, September 12.
