Blue Field Hockey Sweeps NEWMAC Weekly Awards

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College field hockey senior Anissa Sridhar (London, Ontario, Canada) and sophomore Emmy Hamilton (New York, N.Y.) have been named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Players of the Week for the period ending October 4, 2015.

Sridhar has earned the NEWMAC's Offensive Player of the Week Award and Hamilton has been awarded the Defensive Player of the Week Award, as the duo helped Wellesley to a 2-1 record this week.

Sridhar scored a pair of goals and added a pair of assists in three games. On Tuesday, she set up the game's opening goal before scoring the Blue's third goal in a 3-1 non-conference victory over Saint Joseph's (Me). Sridhar threaten but was held off the scoresheet in a midweek loss to No. 2 Bowdoin. However, she rebounded with a goal and an assist in a 3-2 NEWMAC win over Smith on Saturday, scoring the second goal of the game before assisting on Courtney Peterson's (Glastonbury, Conn.) 2OT game-winner.

Hamilton continues to provide a steady presence on defense for the Blue, guiding Wellesley to a 3-1 victory over Saint Joseph's (Me.) on Tuesday before turning in a fantastic defense effort against Bowdoin on Thursday. Hamilton's play was finally rewarded on Saturday when she scored the opening goal, her first of the season, in Wellesley's 3-2 2OT NEWMAC victory over Smith.

Sridhar, Hamilton and the ninth-ranked Blue continue NEWMAC play with a pivtol match-up at 6:00 PM tomorrow night, October 6, at No. 16 Babson. Both teams are currently tied atop the conference standings with matching 3-0 records.
