WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College field hockey assistant coach Callie Lekas '10 has been named the Head Field Hockey Coach at fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) institution Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

"I've had the pleasure of working with Callie for the last four seasons and I truly could not have asked for a better colleague," said Wellesley Head Coach Julia King. While we will miss Callie's integrity, work ethic, and love for the game, we are so happy for her. I have no doubt that she will lead Clark with the same thoughtfulness and passion that she brought to Wellesley."

Serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater for the past four seasons, Lekas helped guide the Blue to three consecutive NCAA Elite Eight appearances in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and NEWMAC regular season and tournament championships in 2013 and 2014. Wellesley went a perfect 8-0 in NEWMAC play in both 2013 and 2014 and 29-3 in league action over the last four seasons, while setting the program record for wins in a season, with 19, in 2014.

Lekas' dedication to Wellesley extended to every branch of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics (PERA). Along with her duties with the field hockey program, Lekas was a Physical Education instructor, teaching PERA's Couch to 5K course, while also serving as a Recreation and Intramural Coordinator. She was also instrumental in establishing the partnership between Wellesley and the Wellesley Scoops Field Hockey Club. To date, the Wellesley Scoops program has helped teach the game to over 200 girls in Wellesley and surrounding communities.

Lekas graduated from Wellesley with a degree in psychology before earning her master's in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2012. While at UMass, Lekas spent one year as an assistant at Amherst College in 2011, helping lead the team to a 15-4 mark and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance.

A three-time NEWMAC and National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First Team All-Region selection (2007, 2008, 2009) during her time as a Blue student-athlete, Lekas scored 57 goals and added 22 assists in her Wellesley career. She helped the program win 53 games from 2006-2009, making a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2006 and the NEWMAC title game in both 2007 and 2008.

"We wish Callie good luck in her new and exciting role of leading the Clark field hockey team, said King. "And, we thank her for her exceptional work at Wellesley."
