Marissa Pennypacker Hired as Blue Field Hockey Assistant Coach

WELLESLEY, Mass. — Wellesley College field hockey Head Coach Julia King has announced the hiring of Marissa Pennypacker as assistant coach of the Blue field hockey program. Pennypacker will also serve as a Recreation Coordinator for the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics.  

"We are looking forward to another season and are thrilled to have Marissa join our team," said King. "Her experience coaching with numerous club programs, coupled with her significant success at the collegiate level made her an ideal fit for the program. Her knowledge and passion for the game will benefit our student-athletes and help us continue to succeed at the highest level." 

Pennypacker has experience teaching the game of field hockey with multiple school and club programs, including most recently with the West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North field hockey team and with the South Jersey Edge Field Hockey Club in Pitman, N.J. Pennypacker has previously coached the West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North JV Girls Lacrosse team as well as with the New Star Lacrosse Club and at the Elite Challenge Invitational Field Hockey Camp. She comes to Wellesley from Clearview Regional High School in Mullica Hill, N.J., where she most recently worked as a substitute teacher. She was also an active volunteer at the Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Del.

"I want to thank Coach King for the opportunity to join the Wellesley community," said Pennypacker. "The program has had tremendous success in recent years and I'm eager to get to work and continue that success."

A four-year student-athlete at The College of New Jersey, Pennypacker was a member of two NCAA Division III Field Hockey National Championship teams, helping the Lions capture the title in 2011 and 2014. She was also a member of the varsity lacrosse team and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council board.

Wellesley field hockey opens the 2016 season on Saturday, September 3 vs. Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The game will be played at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland, Maine at 1:00 PM.
