Maisano, Chrobock Lead No. 9 Field Hockey Past Wesleyan, 2-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – First year Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.) and sophomore Haley Chrobock (Branchville, N.J.) each scored in the second half to propel No. 9 Wellesley College field hockey to a 2-0 victory over visiting Wesleyan University (Conn.) on Sunday at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

The Blue are now 3-0 on the season following their first home victory. Wesleyan is 0-2 to start the year.

Following a scoreless first half, Wellesley broke the deadlock when senior Courtney Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.) set-up Maisano at the left side of the cage for the first Wellesley goal of the game and the first career collegiate goal for Maisano. Maisano's goal would stand as the game-winner, also the first of her career.

The Blue made the score 2-0 later in the half thanks to another career first, this time off the stick of Chrobock. The sophomore's initial bid was stopped by Wesleyan senior goalkeeper Claire Edelman (Baltimore, Md.), but she corralled her own rebound and knocked it home to double the Wellesley lead with her first collegiate goal at 63:33.

Edelman made 10 saves on 12 Wellesley shots on goal. The senior also got a hand from her defense, as the Cardinals came up with five defensive saves, including three in the first half from junior Lily Ardente (Providence, R.I.).

In the Wellesley cage, senior Lucy Hurlock (Needham, Mass.) made one save on one Wesleyan shot on goal to pick up her second shutout and move to 3-0 on the year. The Blue had a sizeable 29-1 edge in shots and a 17-0 edge in penalty corners in the game.

Wellesley will hit the road this week to take on Trinity (Conn.) at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, September 14. Wesleyan will also be on the road on Wednesday night when they play at Eastern Conn. St. at 4:30 PM.
