No. 11 Blue Field Hockey Suffers 2-1 Setback at Trinity (Conn.)

HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior Kelcie Finn (Weymouth, Mass.) scored a pair of second-half goals to lead Trinity College to a 2-1 non-conference victory over No. 11 Wellesley College field hockey on Wednesday night at Sheppard Field.

Finn's second-half goals helped the Bantams move to 2-1 on the season, while handing Wellesley their first loss to drop the Blue to 3-1 on the year.

Sophomore Haley Chrobock (Branchville, N.J.) opened the scoring in the contest following a scoreless first half when she finished on an assist from senior Courtney Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.) 3:39 into the second half. Chrobock's second of the season, and in her last two games, briefly gave the Blue the 1-0 edge but the host Bantams responded just over a minute later.

Finn broke free from the Wellesley defense to tie the game at 1-1 at 40:02. Finn would go on to score her second goal on an unassisted effort at 58:42 to pull Trinity ahead, 2-1. Wellesley managed the final two penalty corners and shots over the final 11:18 of regulation but the Blue were unable to beat Trinity junior goalkeeper Lori Berger (Scottsdale, Ariz.).

Berger finished the contest with eight saves on nine shots on goal to improve to 2-1 on the season. Wellesley senior Lucy Hurlock (Needham, Mass.) turned aside seven Bantam shots and is now 3-1 on the year.

Very little separated the sides throughout the contest, with the teams tying in shots 11-11 and in penalty corner opportunities at eight apiece.

Both teams will continue the season on the road on Saturday, September 17. Wellesley will travel to Wheaton for a 12:00 PM New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. Trinity will match-up with Hamilton at 11:00 AM.
