Connelly Named NFHCA/Longstreth DIII Defensive Player of the Week

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College field hockey sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.) has been named the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Defensive Player of the Week for competition from Sept. 19-25.

Connelly had a huge week with 26 saves and just one goal allowed in two games to help the Blue split a pair of contests. She helped Wellesley stay close against then-No. 7 Tufts by making 12 saves in a 1-0 loss on Tuesday, making all of her saves after allowing an early goal. Connelly kept her run going on Saturday against Mount Holyoke, making 14 saves to help the Blue prevail 1-0 in overtime despite being outshot 19-4. Connelly made 12 saves after intermission to keep the game scoreless. She was making just the second and third starts of her collegiate career last week.

Wellesley field hockey is in action later today at No. 2 Bowdoin. Live video and live statistics will be available beginning at 6:30 PM.
