WELLESLEY, Mass. – Connecticut College first year Sophie Pollinger (Summit, N.J.) scored her first career goal to lead the visiting Camels to a 2-0 non-conference victory over Wellesley College field hockey on Tuesday at the Wellesley Fields Complex.

Sophomore Jamie Navoni (Natick, Mass.) added her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the second half to help the Camels improve to 2-9 on the year. Wellesley drops to 6-6 overall.

Pollinger used a feed from junior Meghan Lembo (Southington, Conn.) to break open a scoreless game at 30:44 of the first half. Lembo chopped the ball into the circle, where Pollinger carried it three steps before unleashing a shot that found a way past Wellesley goalkeeper Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.).

Connelly finished with one save in the contest, splitting time with senior Lucy Hurlock (Needham, Mass.), who added a pair of saves in the second half. Connecticut College goalkeeper Ryley van der Velde (Louisville, Ky.) made two saves to record her first shutout of the season.

Navoni doubled the Camel advantage in the second half, carrying the ball to the right of Hurlock before firing the ball into the Wellesley cage. Connecticut College finished with a 6-5 edge in shots. The Blue had a 4-3 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.

Wellesley returns to action on Saturday, October 15, at 1:00 PM when they host Springfield College for Senior Day. Connecticut College will also play on Saturday when they host Tufts at 12:00 PM.
