Blue Field Hockey Cruises To 2-0 Non-Conference Win Over Bridgewater St.

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Senior Nikki Sharkin (Summit, N.J.) and sophomore Haley Chrobock (Branchville, N.J.) each scored for Wellesley College field hockey as the Blue cruised to a 2-0 non-conference victory over Bridgewater State University on Thursday afternoon at Wellesley's Turf Field.

Wellesley controlled possession throughout the contest, outshooting the Bears 27-4 to improve to 8-7 on the season. The setback snaps a four-game win streak for Bridgewater St., dropping the Bears to 9-5 overall.

The Blue scored both of their goals in a three-minute span late in the opening half. Chrobock netted her fourth of the season to make the score 1-0 at 29:27, depositing the ball into the cage after first Maya Sullivan (Cumberland, R.I.) corralled a rebound off a Sharkin shot and found the sophomore on the right post.

Wellesley would make the score 2-0 at 32:11 when Sharkin scored her fifth goal of the season on a Wellesley corner. Senior Cat Anderson (Andover, Mass.) inserted the ball to Peterson who lifted it towards Sharkin in front of Bridgewater St. goalkeeper Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.). Sharkin then redirected the ball just across the goal line to make the score 2-0.

Chappell finished the game with 13 saves on 15 Wellesley shots on goal. For Wellesley, senior Lucy Hurlock (Needham, Mass.) and sophomore Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.) combined for the shutout, with Connelly making one save in the second half.

Wellesley returns to New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, October 22, with an 11:00 AM contest at Clark. Bridgewater St. will also be on the road on Saturday when they travel to Salem St. for a 12:00 PM start.
