Blue Field Hockey to Host Mount Holyoke to Open NEWMAC Tournament
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Fourth-seeded Wellesley College field hockey will host fifth-seeded Mount Holyoke College in the quarterfinals of the 2016 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Championship on Tuesday, November 1, at 3:00 PM. The championship consists of six teams that will compete for the title which will begin on Tuesday, November 1, with the quarterfinal round.
The Blue and Lyons will each finished with 5-3 records in conference play this season, however, the Blue earned the right to host the contest thanks to their 1-0 overtime victory over the Lyons on September 24. First year Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.) scored the game-winner, while sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.) made 14 saves in the shutout victory.
After boasting an undefeated regular season in conference play, and a No. 10 national ranking, the Babson College Beavers (8-0) have earned the No. 1 seed and right to host the semifinal and championship rounds. Joining the Beavers with a first round bye is No. 2 Smith (6-2) who defeated No. 3 MIT (6-2) head-to-head in the regular season for the slot. The Engineers will host No. 6 Springfield (3-5) on Tuesday.
