Peterson, Sharkin, Hamilton Named to Longstreth/NFHCA DIII All-Region Teams

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region teams on Monday and Wellesley seniors Courtney Peterson (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Nikki Sharkin (Summit, N.J.) have been named to the New England East Region First Team, while junior Emmy Hamilton (New York, N.Y.) has earned a spot on the New England East Region Second Team.

In all, 197 student-athletes received either first or second-team recognition across the six regions.

Peterson earns her second All-Region first team award from the NFHCA following her senior season, after also receiving first team honors during her junior year. Peterson recorded nine goals and five assists for 23 points, leading the Blue in scoring during the 2016 campaign. Peterson added two defensive saves while starting in all 18 of Wellesley's games during her senior campaign. Wellesley's co-captain closed out her Wellesley career with 45 goals and 28 assists in 82 career games.

Also co-captain of the Blue, Sharkin earns her first NFHCA All-Region following a senior year that included eight goals, including a pair of game-winners, and three assists. Also a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference first team selection for the first time in 2016, Sharkin played in 81 career games for Wellesley, scoring 37 goals and 29 assists. Sharkin joined Peterson in representing the Blue one final time at this year's NFHCA Senior Game at William Smith College.

Hamilton garners her second-straight All-Region second team award, playing in 12 games and recording an assist during a junior campaign shortened by injury. Wellesley's sweeper helped the Blue to an 8-4 mark while in the lineup, also earning NEWMAC All-Conference second team honors for the second year in a row. Hamilton will return next season to lead a Wellesley squad that went 10-8 during the 2016 season.

The Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Regional Players of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, November 30, with the All-America squad coming out on December 6 and the National Player of the Year on December 12. For the complete list of All-Region teams, click here.
