Wellesley Field Hockey Earns 2016-17 NFHCA Academic Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has announced the Division III Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Team Awards and National Academic Squad for 2016-17 and Wellesley College field hockey has been honored with both team and individual accolades.

Collectively, the Blue achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year to garner the National Academic Team Award. Wellesley was one of 124 squads across Division III to earn the academic recognition from the NFHCA and has now been on the National Academic Team Award list in every year since 2010.

In addition, junior Emmy Hamilton (New York, N.Y.) and sophomores Haley Chrobock (Branchville, N.J.), Paige Hauke (Colchester, Vt.) and Arielle Mitropoulos (Cambridge, Mass.) have all been named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. For Hamilton, the honor is the second of her career, while the award is the first for the trio of Blue sophomores. Hamilton, Chrobock, Hauke and Mitropoulos also earned New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic honors this season. 

Wellesley College field hockey finished the 2016 season with a 10-8 overall record, advancing to the NEWMAC Postseason tournament for the sixth consecutive season under Head Coach Julia King.
