Wellesley Field Hockey Drops 8-0 Setback Against No. 9 Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Wellesley College field hockey dropped a 8-0 setback against No. 9 Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday evening at MacDowell Field.

Wellesley is now 4-6 on the season and 1-3 in NEWMAC action. Babson improves to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Tori Roche (Andover, Mass.) and senior Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) paced the Beavers with three goals each, Tango also added one assist. First years Lauren Curley (Stow, Mass.) and Millie Brady (Far Hills, N.J.) both tallied a goal to round out scoring for Babson.

Roche scored a hat trick in the first half, while Brady and Tango both got on the board to help give Babson the 5-0 edge heading into halftime. Tango completed her hat trick by scoring the first two goals of the second half to extend the lead, 7-0. Curley tipped in the final goal of the game at 67:40 to give Babson the 8-0 final.

Babson outshot Wellesley, 25-2, and held the advantage in penalty corners, 9-2. Wellesley sophomore goalkeeper Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) made three saves for the Blue in the first half, while senior goalkeeper Maggie Connelly (Duxbury, Mass.) recorded four saves in the second half. Babson first year Cassidy Riley (Catonsville, Md.) had one save during the game to improve to, 9-3 on the season.

Both teams will return to action on Saturday, October 6 at 12:00 PM. Wellesley will travel to Mount Holyoke College and Babson will play at Clark University.
