Wellesley Field Hockey's Negron Named to NFHCA All-Region Second Team
GILBERT, Ariz. -- Wellesley College field hockey senior Cecie Negron (Midlothian, Va.) has been named to the 2018 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III New England East Region Second Team. The All-Region honor is the first of Negron's career.
Negron is one of 197 Division III student-athletes to be named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region teams. Division III teams are separated into six regions: Great Lakes, New England East, New England West, North Atlantic, South Atlantic and South — each region honors student-athletes on a first or second team. A New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference first team selection in 2018, Negron appeared in 76 career games and made 75 starts during her four-year career in Blue. Negron scored eight goals and registered 16 assists in her career, playing as a midfielder for three years before transitioning to defense during her senior year. A two-year captain and a 2016-17 NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team selection, Negron tallied a pair of assists and a defensive save during her senior campaign and quickly established herself as one of the top defenders in the NEWMAC, starting all 17 games for the Blue in 2018.
The Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the Longstreth/NFHCA Regional Player of the Year awards (December 3) — they will be followed by the Longstreth/NFHCA All-American teams (December 5) and the Longstreth/NFHCA National Collegiate Player of the Year (December 11).
