Wellesley Field Hockey Tops Husson 3-0 Under New Butler Stadium Lights

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College field hockey stormed past Husson University for a 3-0 non-conference victory on Friday evening in the team's first game under the lights of the newly renovated Butler Stadium. The win was also the first for Callie Lekas '10 as Head Coach of the Blue field hockey program.

Senior Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.), sophomore Caitlin Campbell (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Maggie King (Philadelphia, Pa.) each scored to lead the Blue (1-0) to the victory. Husson is now 0-1 to start the season.

Maisano sparked a lead for the Blue with the first goal of the game, finishing a penalty corner with a deflection off a drive from junior Mitzi Wiggin (North Hampton, N.H.). The Blue added two more goals in the second quarter. The first came off the stick of Campbell, who finished off a quick pass from junior Carson Dennis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) for the first of her career. King scored the second, finishing on an assist from Maisano as the ball squeaked past Husson's starting goalie Kimmie Goddard (Westbrook, Maine) and into the back of the cage. The goal was the first of King's collegiate career.

Goddard (0-1) finished the game with 11 saves on 14 shots on goal. Wellesley's Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) took home her first win (1-0) of the season with one save. The junior goalkeeper fought off nine penalty corners and two total shots.

The Blue return to play at Butler Stadium on Sunday, September 1, at 12:00 PM for a non-conference matchup against Saint Joseph's College. The Eagles will also host Saint Joseph's College in their next contest on Thursday, September 5, at 7:00 PM.
