Wellesley Field Hockey Shuts Down Framingham St., 5-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Senior Hannah Maisano (Gambrills, Md.) scored a pair of goals to lead Wellesley College field hockey to a dominant 5-0 non-conference victory over visiting Framingham State University on Wednesday evening at Butler Stadium.

The Blue, who have outscored the team's last three opponents by a 23-1 margin, have won three straight and are now 4-2 overall. Framingham St. is now 2-3 on the season.

Wellesley did not allow a shot through the first three quarters of action, outshooting the Rams 25-2 in the game en route to the victory. Wellesley put 17 of the team's 25 shots on goal and earned 14 penalty corner chances while limiting the Rams to just one shot on goal and one penalty corner.

Sophomore Caitlin Campbell (San Diego, Calif.) scored the eventual game-winner at 12:15 of the first, deflecting a high shot from junior Carson Dennis (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) down and into the Framingham St. cage. The goal was Campbell's fifth of the season. The Blue went on to add two more first-half goals to take a 3-0 lead before the break.

Sophomore Maddie Bettencourt (Virginia Beach, Va.) tallied her third goal of the year in the second period, slamming home a loose ball after it took a deflection off of a Framingham St. defender. Maisano then scored the third Wellesley goal and her sixth of the year 5:29 before the half.

Dennis picked-up her second assist of the game on a third quarter goal from junior Maggie King (Philadelphia, Pa.) to give the Blue a 4-0 lead. Maisano completed the scoring with a goal in the final minute of play, sweeping home an assist from Campbell after Campbell's first bid at the cage was denied by Framingham St. sophomore goalkeeper Grace Pushor (Old Town, Maine).

Pushor (2-3 overall) finished with a season-high 12 saves for the Rams. Blue junior Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.) played the opening 45 minutes to earn the victory. First year Eleanor Rothera (Lusby, Md.) made one save in relief in the fourth quarter.

Wellesley opens New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday, September 21, with a 12:00 PM contest against WPI. Framingham St. will host Castleton for Homecoming & Family Weekend on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
