Tufts Tops Blue Field Hockey, 3-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Junior Andrea DelGiudice (Bedford, N.H.) scored a pair of goals and Mia D'Angelo (Westwood, Mass.) added another to lead visiting Tufts University to a 3-0 victory over Wellesley College field hockey on Thursday evening at Butler Stadium.

Wellesley junior goalkeeper Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) made a season-high 14 saves for the Blue (1-3 overall). Tufts (1-0 overall) finished the contest with a 24-0 advantage in shots and a 15-0 advantage in penalty corners. Deehr-Lewis got help from defenders Lindsay Strong (Concord, Mass.) and Sara Maniscalco (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), as each player recorded a defensive save for the Blue.

Despite consistent first half pressure from the Jumbos, Wellesley held Tufts scoreless until the final minute of the opening half. D'Angelo capitalized on a turnover in the Wellesley defensive end with 30 seconds left before the break and powered a shot past Deehr-Lewis to give the Jumbos a 1-0 lead.

DelGiudice added a pair of goals in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. The junior picked up her first of the season on a penalty corner, scoring on her own rebound after the initial effort was turned back by Deehr-Lewis. DelGiudice made it 3-0 just under four minutes later when she collected a loose ball at the top of the circle and powered a drive into the Wellesley cage.

The Blue will now look to next Tuesday and a 7:00 PM non-conference match-up at Worcester St.. Tufts will host Conn. College to open NESCAC play on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
