Bowdoin Takes Down Wellesley Field Hockey, 3-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Three different players scored a goal for No. 13 Bowdoin College as the visiting Polar Bears shutout Wellesley College field hockey, 3-0, in non-conference play on Wednesday evening at Butler Stadium.

Jane Shanahan (St. Louis, Mo.), Sophia Rosati (Newburyport, Mass.), and Faith Jennings (Ghent, N.Y.) each found the net for Bowdoin (4-1 overall), while Caroline Higgins (Weston, Mass.) picked up an assist.  Sophomore Sara Maniscalco (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) recorded a defensive save for the Blue (3-4 overall) late in the first quarter, while junior goalie Kyra Deehr-Lewis (Newtown, Pa.) had five saves.

The Polar Bears attacked early, with Shanahan scoring just four minutes into the contest. From there, Bowdoin used a high pressure offense to keep the Blue on the back foot. Late in the first quarter Rosati would rocket a ball past Deehr-Lewis off a picture perfect pass from Higgins. The second quarter saw more of the same for Bowdoin's offense, with Jennings driving the score up to 3-0 in the 25th minute.

Bowdoin finished the game with a 16-0 advantage in shots, drawing three penalty corner opportunities in the game. Julia Arsenault (Rowayton, Conn.) earned the victory in goal for the visitors.

The Blue will now look to Saturday and a NEWMAC home game against Wheaton at 1:00 PM. Bowdoin will host Middlebury in NESCAC action on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
