Wellesley Field Hockey Narrowly Defeated on Senior Day, 2-1

WELLESLEY, Mass. - A pair of second half goals led Springfield to a 2-1 win over Wellesley College field hockey in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play to wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Butler Stadium.

Prior to the game Wellesley celebrated their three seniors, Lindsay Strong (Concord, Mass.), AK Williams (Greenville, S.C.), and Keller Gardner (Falmouth, Maine).

Juniors Audrey Dolan (Westminster, Mass.) and Emma McLaughlin (Norwalk, Conn.) scored the goals for the Pride (9-9 Overall, 5-3 NEWMAC). Junior Alex Lenart (Princeton Junction, N.J.) scored her seventh goal of the year for the Blue (7-10 Overall, 3-5 NEWMAC). First year Ceci Miller (Lewiston, Maine) picked up an assist. 

The Blue put five shots on goal in the first half, all saved by Springfield junior Remy Niland (Marshfield, Mass.).

Midway through the third Lenart was able to maneuver around Niland a put the ball in the back of the cage to give Wellesley a 1-0 lead.

Early in the fourth a pass by Springfield senior Grace Levansavich (Auburn, Mass.) set Dolan up to tuck a shot in the right corner of the goal, tying the game at 1-1.

A penalty shot opportunity was converted by McLaughlin midway through the fourth, giving the Pride a 2-1 lead that they never gave up.

The Blue will play Wednesday in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals against WPI.
