Softball Downs USM, Trinity in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Wellesley College softball team went 2-0 on day two of their spring break trip to Clermont, FL. The Blue posted a 2-0 win over the University of Southern Maine and a 6-1 victory against Trinity College. The wins improve Wellesley to 3-1 on the season.

In game one, the Blue needed just two runs and four hits to dispatch the USM Huskies. Sophomore Sarah Schwartzmeyer tossed a gem, earning the complete game shutout. In seven innings of work, she allowed just two hits while striking out nine and walking one.

At the plate, sophomore Samantha Spiga knocked in a run with a third inning single, while senior Megan Townsend scored the other run on a wild pitch.

In the second game of the day, Lauren Goldfarb was the star on both sides of the ball versus Trinity. The sophomore picked up the win, throwing seven strong innings allowing just two hits and an unearned run. She struck out five while walking four. At the plate, Goldfarb went 2-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.

Sophomore Mara Blesoff also had a big day against Trinity, going 2-3 with a double and three runs batted in. First-year Jayne Ellis also knocked in a run for the Blue. 

Wellesley continues its trip with two games tomorrow afternoon. At 1:30, the Blue will face Colby and at 5:30 the team takes on Bowdoin.
