Babson Ends Blue Softball's NEWMAC Tournament Run

QUAKER HILL, Conn. -- In game number five of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference softball tournament, Babson ended Wellesley's playoff run, defeating the Blue 10-0 in five innings.

Pitcher Christina Miguel led the Beavers in the winning effort by throwing a complete game shut out and scattering five Wellesley hits in the Babson win.  Jessica Pashos led the Beaver offensive effort with two hits over her four at bats with two runs batted in.

The Beavers began the scoring in the top of the first with a pair of runs by way of wild pitches. Jackie Enos draw a walk to open the inning, while Jessica Pashos reached on an infield single. Both eventually came around to score on wild pitches, giving Babson a 2-0 advantage. 

The green and white continued the scoring attack in the top of the second inning. Lisa Wojnar started off the Beavers with a lead off walk and then scored on a RBI single to right field by Jackie Enos.

Babson increased their lead in the top of the third inning to 5-0.  Catie Funk, who led off the Babson third with a double to right centerfield, later scored on a single by Nicole Latini who also came around to score for the Beavers.

Babson continued the offence in the top of the fourth inning scoring two unearned runs by drawing a pair of walks and taking advantage of two Wellesley errors.

The Blue had their best opportunity to score in the bottom of the fifth inning when first-year Rachel Harris led off with a double down the left field line. After two line-outs from Wellesley, senior Megan Townsend singled, but it wasn't deep enough for Harris to score. Babson then got out of the jam by forcing a fly-out to end the game.

Wellesley finished the game with no runs on five hits and four errors leaving six runners on base, while the victors finished the game with 10 runs on seven hits and no errors also leaving six runners on base.

Wellesley returns to action in their season finale on April 27th, a non-conference doubleheader at Bridgewater State.
