Wellesley Softball Defeats Amherst 5-1

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College softball team defeated the Amherst College Jeffs in a non-conference game at Wellesley on Monday afternoon by a final score of 5-1.  With the win, the Blue improve to 18-9 overall while Amherst falls to 15-7.

Wellesley got a complete game effort from senior pitcher
Lindsay Johnson who improved to 10-6.  The Blue overcame a 1-0 deficit by tallying one run in the fifth and a four runs in the sixth.

Amherst jumped out to an early lead by piecing together hits from Kaitlyn Silkowitz and Donna Leet and had strong pitching from Lauren Tuiskula.

Wellesley's
Abby Casey scored the tying run from first-base on a double from Ashtyn Coleman in the fifth and the Blue put together a four-run sixth to seal the game.  The go-ahead run was knocked in by Jennifer Migliore on a hit-by-pitch, and Coleman again contributed in the sixth with a two-RBI single.

Amherst threatened in the top of the seventh, but Johnson was able to escape unscathed.  The Jeffs loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch, error, and a single before Johnson struck out the game's final batter.

Wellesley softball is back in action on Wednesday, as they host a non-conference doubleheader against Rhode Island College.  Amherst is also back in action on Wednesday as they head to Smith College for a doubleheader.
