Four Blue Softball Players Earn All-Region Nods

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College softball team earned four All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced earlier this week. The Blue's Emilyrose Havrilla, Ashtyn Coleman, Jayne Ellis, and Lindsay Johnson, represented Wellesley on the NFCA All-New England team.

Wellesley's four selections match the highest total in program history, as the Blue also earned four All-Region spots in 2008, 2009, and 2013. Three of the Blue's four honorees are making their first appearance on the All-Region list, while another earns a second-straight All-Region nod.

Leading the way for the Blue was junior Emilyrose Havrilla who earned first-team All-Region honors at shortstop. The 2014 NEWMAC Player of the Year, Havrilla hit .433 for the Blue, while recording team-highs of 10 homeruns and 34 runs batted in. Her homerun total broke the Wellesley single-season record. She also led the team in multi-hit (18) and multi-RBI (8) games this year, while racking up 52 hits, 41 runs, and seven extra-base hits. A first-team All-NEWMAC selection earlier this season, Havrilla makes her first appearance on the All-Region team.

First-year Ashtyn Coleman was named a second-team All-Region selection at catcher. The 2014 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and a first-team All-Conference selection, she led the team with a .462 batting average, breaking the previous-best Wellesley single-season mark. Coleman led the Blue in slugging percentage (.838), on-base percentage (.537), doubles (16), and hits (54). She also totaled 33 runs batted in, 26 runs scored, eight homeuns, and 16 walks from the lead-off spot. Coleman also earned a spot on the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team.

Senior Jayne Ellis earns her second-straight All-Region nod, representing New England on the second team as an at-large selection playing first base. Ellis finished the year with a .364 batting average, with 44 hits, 8 doubles, 27 runs batted in. She had a slugging percentage of .512 and an on-base percentage of .454. Ellis finishes her career in Blue with program career records in games started (150), on-base percentage (.437), runs scored (96), and walks (48). She is also in the top-five in Wellesley history in homeruns (10), slugging percentage (.537), hits (147), and batting average (.342).

Senior pitcher Lindsay Johnson was named to the All-Region third team as an at-large selection. Johnson went 20-8 for the Blue this season, carrying a 2.34 ERA. She racked up 126 strikeouts this season, throwing 179.1 innings. The NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, Johnson was also named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team. She finishes her career in Wellesley with records for the most appearances (82), games started (57), and saves (5), and is second in wins (40), shutouts (10), and innings pitched (426.1). Johnson also hit single season records this season for wins (20) and innings pitched (179.1), while also recording her 300th career strikeout.

The Wellesley College softball team finished the 2014 season as NEWAC Tournament and Regular Season Champions, and as NCAA Regional Runner-Up. The Blue went 29-10, recording the most wins since the 2008 season.
