Softball's Bresee, Pisac Travel With Beyond Sports To South Africa

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Earlier this summer Carly Bresee '16 (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and rising senior Anna Pisac (Snohomish, Wash.) took part in Beyond Sports first South Africa Softball Tour. The trip took place June 19 - July 1, 2016.

Bresee and Pisac, both NEWMAC All-Conference and NFCA All-Region selections in 2016, joined a team of all-conference honorees and statistical leaders from colleges across the country to take on Cape Town's best softball teams in three friendly games. In addition to the playing softball games, the athletes also taught softball clinics for South African youth. Clinics and games were hosted in partnership with the Cape Town Softball Association.

"The trip to South Africa was absolutely inspiring. I am so thankful I was invited to represent Wellesley Softball, play against professional South African teams, tour the country, and teach young kids about the game I love," said Bresee following the tour. "Beyond Sports is a wonderful organization, and I'm thrilled I got to end my softball career with them. It was the cherry on top of an incredible four years with Wellesley Softball."

Off the field, the team also spent time learning about South African history and culture as they visited Robben Island, the Castle of Good Hope and the District 6 Museum. They also hiked Table Mountain and enjoyed a Big Game Safari.

Beyond Sports, founded in 2010, is the first study abroad program designed specifically for student-athletes. To date, they have hosted athletes from over 200 different colleges across the country through summer, Jan-term and semester programs in Costa Rica and South Africa.
