Five From Wellesley Softball Named 2016-17 NFCA Scholar-Athletes

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced that a record 7,351 softball players across seven membership divisions earned Easton / NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year and Wellesley College softball had five players named to the list. Athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale are recognized as NFCA Scholar-Athletes.

Seniors Zein Aburish (Alexandria, Va.) and Julia Warner (Kenmore, Wash.), junior Sydney Hopper (Newcastle, Wash.) and Kendra Coleman '17 (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Anna Pisac '17 (Snohomish, Wash.) all earned the honor for the 2016-17 academic year, joing the 1,825 NCAA Division III student-athletes that garnered recognition. In addition, the Wellesley College softball program was named one of the 2016-17 Easton / NFCA Division III All-Academic Teams after compiling a collective GPA of 3.44.

Wellesley finished the 2017 season, the 13th under the guidance of head coach Keri O'Meara, with a record of 18-12. The Blue went 11-7 in New England Women's & Men's Ahletic Conference (NEWMAC) play, advancing to the NEWMAC Tournament for the 13th consecutive season.
