Wellesley's Gen Brittingham Named NFCA Softball DIII All-American

TYLER, Texas -- Wellesley College softball sophomore Gen Brittingham (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) has been named a 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-American.

A New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference and NFCA All-Region First Team selection in 2019, Brittingham has been named to the All-America Third Team for the first time in her career. Brittingham was one of 45 players chosen for the 2019 NFCA Division III All-America softball teams.

Brittingham is the third player in Wellesley program history to earn All-America honors, joining Lauren Goldfarb '13, who earned the honor in 2011, and Jenna Harvey '08, an All-American in 2007 and 2008. Brittingham finished in the top-ten in the NCAA in batting average in 2019, hitting .509 with a team-leading on-base percentage (.513), and slugging percentage (.796), while racking-up 55 hits, four home runs and 32 RBI. Of her 55 hits, 18 were doubles, ranking her among the nation's leaders in doubles per game. In addition to her prowess at the plate, Brittingham totaled eight outfield assists in her first collegiate season in centerfield.

The NFCA Division III All-America softball teams are selected from the pool of players who earned first team All-Region recognition by eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions. The honorees were recognized on Wednesday evening during the NCAA Division III Championship banquet at the Herrington Patriot Center on the University of Texas at Tyler campus.

Established in 1983, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play.
