Wellesley's Hana is NCAA Softball Statistical Champion in Sacrifice Hits Per Game

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Wellesley College softball player, Alyssa Hana (La Mirada, Calif.), is the 2018-19 NCAA Division III statistical champion for Sacrifice Hits Per Game.

As a sophomore in 2019, Hana averaged 0.75 sacrifice hits per game, totaling 24 sacrifice hits in 32 games played to lead the nation. Student-athletes must play in 75% of their team's games to be eligible for NCAA Statistical Rankings. The next closest qualifier averaged 0.49 sacrifice hits per game.

Per the NCAA: A sacrifice bunt is credited to the batter when, with fewer than two outs, their bunt enables a runner to advance, provided no other runner is put out attempting to advance. A sacrifice fly is credited when, with fewer than two outs, their fly, fair or foul, enables a runner to score. In either case, the sacrifice ruling applies when the batter is put out before they reach first base or would have been put out if the ball had been fielded without error.

Hana and the Blue softball team finished the 2019 season with a 13-17-2 overall record, advancing to the final day of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship tournament.
