Katie Rufo Hired as Wellesley Softball Assistant Coach

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Keri O'Meara, Head Softball Coach and PERA Associate Professor of the Practice at Wellesley College, has announced the hiring of Katie Rufo as Assistant Softball Coach.

Rufo started her collegiate softball career at Division I Elon University in Elon, N.C. before transfering to Division III Johnson & Wales University (JWU) in Providence, R.I.. In just two years at JWU, Rufo helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) titles and NCAA tournament apperances, while earning GNAC First-Team All-Conference honors and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region honors in back-to-back season. She capped her career with First-Team Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, recognizing her prowess on the field and in the classroom.

Off the field, Rufo was a member of the JWU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and earned the GNAC Sportsmanship Award in 2017. As a senior, she received the Tom Carmody Award for Character, Spirit, and Community Service which is presented to the outstanding male or female senior athlete who exemplifies outstanding academic success; significant athletic contribution; commitment to community service; and loyalty, effort, and enthusiasm.

Rufo has worked as a member of the coaching staff at Planet Fastpitch in Uxbridge, Mass. since 2014 and was the Assistant Coach of the Natick High School Varsity Softball team in 2019. A certifed Amateur Softball Association umpire, Rufo has also coached with the NE Quicksilver U16 and U18 Travel Teams and interned with the Boston University Women's Basketball Team.

A native of neighboring Natick, Mass., Rufo earned her B.S. in Sports, Events, and Entertainment Mangement from JWU in 2018.
