Bio

Ashley (Bernstein) Besse joined Wellesley softball as an assistant coach in 2013. A standout collegiate player, Besse came to Wellesley after a stint as the head softball and soccer coach at nearby Pine Manor College. 

While at Pine Manor, Besse handled the recruiting efforts for both Division III programs, leading the softball team to a 12-10 record. She was also the athletics work-study coordinator at Pine Manor, and assisted with game-day operations for five NCAA sports. Prior to her time at Pine Manor, Besse spent two years as the head pitching coach at Division-II Bentley University. The Falcons racked up 29 wins in her time with the team.

Besse played collegiate softball at Division II Southern New Hampshire University, where she was a four-year starter for the Penmen. She was named the SNHU Female Athlete of the Year in 2007, and also earned spots on the Northeast-10 All-Conference and the NCAA Regional All-Tournament teams in her career. Besse picked up 35 wins as a pitcher for the Penmen, with a career batting average of .320. Prior to her arrival at SNHU, Besse was named the Massachusetts Gatorade Softball Player of the Year in both 2004 and 2005 while playing for Cardinal Spellman High School in Brockton, Mass.
