Making their first appearance in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Semifinals since the 2001-02 season, the Wellesley College basketball team lost a hard-fought 56-46 game to second-seeded WPI. With the loss, Wellesley (9-16) sees its spectacular postseason run come to an end. The sixth-seeded Blue stunned third-seeded Springfield College in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday to earn a spot in the semifinal round.

Two free throws by Malia Maier with 28 seconds left proved to be the difference as the Wellesley College women's basketball team upset Springfield College, 58-57, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal game tonight at SC's Blake Arena. With the win, Wellesley, the #6-seed, advances to the NEWMAC semis at Babson Saturday at 3 pm. The Blue raise their record to 9-15 while Springfield, the #3 seed, finishes its season at 15-11.

Springfield women's basketball used hot shooting to build a 19-point first-half lead in route to a 77-61 win over Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon at Keohane Sports Center. The win lifts the Pride to 15-10 overall, 13-5 in NEWMAC play, good for the #3 seed in the post-season conference tournament. Wellesley drops to 8-15, 6-12 in the conference. As the #6 seed, Wellesley will face the Pride at Springfield in the tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday, February 24, at 5:30 p.m.
