Wellesley Basketball Plays 4Kay in Breast Cancer Fundraiser

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College basketball team will be taking part in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Play 4Kay" initiative on Saturday, February 11th.

The Blue will take on WPI in a 2:00 pm game that will also serve as a fundraiser for breast cancer research. In the week prior to the game, the Wellesley players will be drumming up support from students across campus.

At the game, team members will be wearing pink socks and will warm-up in pink Wellesley Athletics t-shirts. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and make a donation. In addition, pink Wellesley athletics t-shirts will be available for sale, while a pink watch will be raffled off at halftime.

The goal of the WBCA's "Play 4Kay" is to raise awareness of breast cancer awareness around the country.  Funds raised at the game will benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer fund which was established under The V Foundation in 2007. Coach Yow, a member of the Naismith Hall of Fame, lost her battle with breast cancer in 2009.

In addition to raising breast cancer awareness, the Blue will be honoring senior captain Elisha Orama. A four-year varsity team member, Orama has made significant contributions in her tenure at Wellesley. She was an integral part of the team's semi-final appearance in the 2010 NEWMAC playoffs and helped lead the team to nine NEWMAC wins last season, the most conference wins in the history of the program.
