Keene State Uses Big Second Half to Top Blue Basketball

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Keene State College outscored Wellesley College 46-15 after halftime to take a 74-35 win in the consolation game of the 2014 Ramada Roundball Invitational hosted by the University of New England at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Blue trailed by just eight at the half, 28-20, but the Owls shot 52 percent after the half and made 9 of 17 attempts from beyond the arc to take control of the game and cruise to the 74-35 final. For the game the Owls converted 14 of 32 attempts from beyond the arc. 

Wellesley senior Morgyne Weaver and junior Chelsi Scott both finished in double-figures. Weaver scored 11 points to go with six rebounds while Scott added 10 points and three steals. Weaver earned a place on the All-Tournament Team, scoring in double-figures in both games.

Keene State first-year guard Sandi Purcell led all scorers with 23 points, including seven 3-pointers. Senior Christan Wojtas nailed five three-pointers and finished with 16 points, while junior Kelsey Cognetta added 11 points. First year Kelsey Santagata added eight points and was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Sarah Kober had a game-high nine rebounds for Keene State, which doubled-up Wellesley, 42-21, in that category.

The Blue will be back in action on Wednesday when they take the short trip to Boston to play Simmons at 7:00 PM. The Owls will host Amherst at 6:00 PM on Tuesday.
