Wellesley Basketball Earns Six NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Honors

WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has revealed the 2021-22 Women's Basketball Academic All-Conference Team. A total of 65 student-athletes were selected with six Wellesley members to earn the honor.

Senior Valentina Morakis (Long Island, N.Y.), a Biology major, earned the honor for the second time. Juniors Lily Forrester (Hamilton, Va.), Taylor Hirn (Hermosa Beach, Calif.), and Rachel Shurberg (Fairfax, Va.) were named to the list for the second consecutive year. Forrester is an Anthropology major, Hirn an Economics major, and Shurberg is also studying Economics. Sophomores Gina Fiore (Reading, Pa.) and Anna Greenthal (Orinda, Calif.) both earned the honor for the first time. Fiore is focusing on a degree in Spanish and Greenthal is an Economics major.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2021 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.


The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
