Wellesley Bested by SUNY Oneonta, 49-33

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - SUNY Oneonta used a 15-0 run to propel themselves to a 49-33 win over Wellesley College basketball on Thursday evening at the South Point Arena as part of the D3hoops.com Classic. 

Sophomore Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored eight points on four of five shooting for the Red Dragons (9-3) and senior Olivia Dobrovsky (Skaneateles, N.Y.) tied a career-high with 14 rebounds. Senior Pujita Shukla (Austin, Texas) was the high scorer for the Blue (5-7) with eight points, while senior Taylor Hirn (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) brought down nine boards.

The Red Dragons open the game with four straight points from Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island, N.Y.). Oneonta later brought their lead to 12-4 on two layups from senior Lauren Obermayer (East Greenbush, N.Y.). A pair of three pointers from juniors Jiyun Chae (Chantilly, Va.) and Anna Greenthal (Orinda, Calif.) helped Wellesley cut the lead down to two at 12-10. The Red Dragons led 13-12 at the end of the first.

After an early Wellesley basket, SUNY scored 15 unanswered points in the second to bring their lead to 28-14 while not allowing Wellesley to score for the final nine minutes of the quarter. Sophomore Nadia Brown (Troy, N.Y.) had a trio of points and two assists during the run while junior Molly Stephens (Lagrange, Ga.) had a pair of baskets.  

The Red Dragons brought their lead to 37-20 midway through the third on a made three pointer before Wellesley got the score to 38-22 at the end of the quarter with a basket from first year Yitzel Serna (Palmdale, Calif.). 

SUNY maintained their lead throughout the fourth quarter with strong defense stretches, though the Blue had a late 8-2 run including a made three from Serna as the lead was cut to 49-33, where it remained through the final buzzer.

The Blue return home on January 3 for a 4:00 PM home game against Middlebury. The Red Dragons next play on January 7 at SUNY New Paltz at 2:00 PM.
