Blue V8 Earns Second NEWMAC Boat of the Week Honor

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College varsity eight boat was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Boat of the Week for the period ending April 6th. This second-straight weekly award for the Blue's top crew.

The Wellesley varsity eight continued its fantastic spring by topping two nationally-ranked crews on Sunday on the Connecticut River. The #5 Blue finished ahead of #1 and eight-time defending NCAA Champion, Williams, while also topping #3 William Smith.

The Blue recorded a time of 6:05.49 in the race, behind only Division-I UMass (6:02.24). William Smith (6:06.82), Williams (6:08.63) and UNH (6:32.15) rounded out the five-team field on the 2,000-meter course.

Wellesley's varsity eight was made up of coxswain, sophomore Alessandra Zaldivar-Giuffredi, and rowers, sophomore Meg Roberts, senior Becca Kimball, sophomore Charlotte Benishek, first-year Kathryn Barth, first-year Hannah Barton, sophomore Grace Howland, sophomore Olivia Thayer, and junior Emma Reuder.

Blue crew is back in action on Saturday, with another race against nationall-ranked opponents. Wellesley will compete at #15 Tufts on the Malden River, also taking on #2 Bates and #6 Wesleyan.
