Wellesley Crew Sweeps Action at Tufts

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College crew team went undefeated on Saturday, winning all seven races entered on Saturday at Tufts. The Blue competed against the host Jumbos as well as NEWMAC-rival Smith College.

Wellesley's varsity eight boat won a pair of races on the morning. The Blue opened with nearly a 20 second victory over Smith in the heats, recording a 6:54.5 to the Pioneer's 7:15.00. In the grand final Wellesley topped Tufts, 6:56.8 to 7:01.7. 

In second varsity action, the Blue avenged last week's loss to Smith at the NEWMAC Championships, by recording nearly a four-second win over the Pioneers in the opening heats. Wellesley posted a time of 7:18.0, while Smith came in at 7:22.2. In the grand final, the Blue picked up a 7:28.2-7:36.8 win over Simmons. 

Wellesley's novice boat also went 2-0 at the event, recording wins over Smith in both races. In the heats, the Blue topped the Smith "B" boat by over 35 seconds, recording a 7:55.00 to Smith's 8:32.9. In the grand final, the Blue topped Smith's "A" boat by 15 seconds, 7:49.6 to 8:05.3. 

Wellesley raced a four, with the crew recording a time of 8:26.7 in an unopposed event.

Wellesley is back in action at the 2014 New England Rowing Championships, hosted on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
