Blue Crew's Spillane Named Coach of the Year as NEWMAC Announces Postseason Awards

BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the postseason awards for women's rowing on Tuesday afternoon, following the conference championship regatta over the weekend. Wellesley College head coach, Tessa Spillane, was voted as the NEWMAC Coach of the Year, after helping guide the Blue to their fifth consecutive league title. WPI won the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award, as voted on by the conference's student-athletes.

The NEWMAC Rower and Coxswain of the Year award recipients, along with the All-Conference teams, were announced at Saturday's championship regatta. Kathryn Barth (Bellevue, Wash.) of Wellesley College was selected as the Rower of the Year and teammate Stephanie Kim (Wellesley, Mass.) was named the Coxswain of the Year. Both individual awards were instituted for the first time in 2014 and were selected by a vote of the conference coaches.

Barth and Kim were also placed on the first team All-Conference along with Anna Hakes (Willow Grove, Penn.) and Loren Lock (Fond du Lac, Wis.) of Wellesley,Emma Carlisle-Reske (Alexandria, Va.), Cloe Jones (Encinitas, Calif.) and Marianna Mapes (Santa Rosa, Calif.) of Smith and Corre Steele (Stow, Mass.) andAnisa Swei (Brookline, MA) of WPI.

Second-team all-conference honorees included Katie Baldyga (Unionville, Conn.) and Alexandra Niclou (Esch-sur Alzette, Luxembourg) of Clark and Alyssa Laystron (Lake Zurich, Ill.) and Karisa Maurer (Flagstaff, Az.) of Coast Guard, Hannah Arbach (Springfield, Va.) and Molly LaPointe (Kennebung, Maine) of Mount Holyoke and Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.) and Chelsea Foster (Avon, Conn.) of Simmons.
