Lock, Dollmeyer Named CRCA Pocock All-Americans, Spillane Coach of the Year

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College crew seniors Loren Lock (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Sydney Dollmeyer (Warren, Vt.) have been named to the 2016 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division III Pocock All-America Team. In addition, Head Coach Tessa Spillane has been named the CRCA Division III National Coach of the Year, while Spillane and assistants Seth Hussey and Hannah Woodruff '11 have been named the CRCA Division III Coaching Staff of the Year.

Each year the coaches of the CRCA recognize the outstanding student-athletes in each Division. All America athletes are nominated by their institution and considered for selection based on: boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements, and 2k erg score.

Lock was named to the All-America first team, while Dollmeyer earned a spot on the All-America second team. Lock earns All-America First Team honors for the second time. She becomes the second student-athlete in program history to garner the honor twice and the first since Jennifer Lamy '13 was named a first team All-American in 2011 and 2013. For Dollmeyer, the honor is the first of her career. The Blue duo helped guide the Varsity Eight to gold at the NCAA Championships, an effort that culminated in Wellesley's first NCAA Division III National Championship this spring. Wellesley has now earned a total of 12 All-American selections since the 2005-06 season under the guidance of Head Coach Tessa Spillane.

Spillane, the 2016 National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year, earns National Coach of the Year honors for the second time (2010-11) in her illustrious career. Spillane, Hussey and Woodruff earn Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time.

The National Coach of the Year Awards are voted on by the membership of the CRCA and are intended to recognize head coaches whose teams have had outstanding success throughout the current season and who have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a coach. The staff of the year awards recognizes a staff who has had a significant impact on the performance of their team, has shown outstanding commitment to their coach and has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity as a staff.
