Blue Crew's Barth, Duggan Cap Careers With Pocock/CRCA All-America Honors

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced its 2017 Pocock Division III All-America teams and Wellesley College crew has earned a pair of selections for the second consecutive year. Senior Kathryn Barth (Bellevue, Wash.) was selected to the All-America first team, while classmate Olivia Duggan (West Newbury, Mass.) earned a spot on the second team.

Barth, the two-time New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rower of the Year, ends a standout career with her first All-American honor, becoming the eighth first team All-America selection for the Blue during the tenure of Head Coach Tessa Spillane.

Barth was a NEWMAC All-Conference selection in 2017 and 2015 as well as Wellesley's representative on the All-Stewards Team following this year's National Invitational Rowing Championship. She was also named the winner of Wellesley's Barbara Barnes Hauptfuhrer '49 Award, given annually to the Wellesley College senior who best combines excellence in scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship and athletic achievement.

Duggan, a captain of the Blue during her senior season, was also a NEWMAC All-Conference selection in 2017. She grabbed a spot on the All-America second team after helping to lead the team to a seventh consecutive conference title and the fourth in her four years. Both Barth and Duggan helped Wellesley's Varsity Eight to third place at the 2017 NCAA Championships, earning a spot on the podium for the fourth time in four years. Wellesley was in the top-four at the NCAA Championship in each of the four years the All-America duo was with the program, including the Blue's 2016 national title.

The Pocock All-America award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions. Individuals are selected based on: strength of schedule, regular season record, end of season regatta results, nomination rank, coach's comments, and 2,000 meter erg score.
