See You In Sarasota: NEWMAC Champion Blue Crew Set For NCAA Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champion Wellesley College crew will make the program's ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Championships, Friday and Saturday, May 25-26, 2018 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. This year's championships are being hosted by the University of Central Florida (UCF) and the Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Association.

Wellesley earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship regatta after sweeping all four races at the 2018 NEWMAC Championships to claim both the conference title and the Florence Jope Smith Points Cup. At last year's NCAA regatta, Blue crew earned the bronze in the Varsity Eight grand final and the silver in the Second Varsity Eight grand final to take third overall. Wellesley has finished in the top-three in each of the last three NCAA Championships, including 2016 when the Blue claimed their first NCAA National Championship.

The championships are comprised of eight teams and each team is required to field two boats of eight rowers and a coxswain. The Blue will be joined by: Liberty League champion Ithaca, Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference champion Washington College, and New England Small College Athletic Conference champion Bates College. In addition, Pacific Luthern University, Wesleyan University (Conn.), Williams College, and WPI each earned at-large bids.
