WELLESLEY, Mass. -- 2018 Wellesley College crew senior Kelsey Campbell (Broomfield, Colo.) has been named a 2018 Pocock/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) First Team All-American. Campbell, also the 2018 New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rower of the Year, is the ninth first team All-America selection for the Blue during the tenure of Head Coach Tessa Spillane.

Campbell rowed in the Wellesley Varsity Eight throughout the spring, helping the Blue to secure their eighth consecutive NEWMAC conference title and ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships. Also a NEWMAC All-Conference first team selection in 2018, Campbell and the Wellesley Varsity Eight went on to finish fourth in the NCAA Grand Finals while helping to propel the Blue to a national runner-up finish in the overall team standings.

The results was the second best mark in Wellesley's program history, trailing only 2016's national championship squad. Campbell was a member of the Second Varsity Eight boat in 2016, earning silver in the second varsity race as part of Wellesley's national championship run. She also earned a silver medal in the second varsity race to lead Wellesley to a third place finish in 2017.

Each year the coaches of the CRCA recognize the outstanding student athletes in each Division. Criteria for the award include:

  • The student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution.
  • The student-athlete must have rowed at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat
  • The student-athlete must be nominated by her institution
  • The Head Coach of the student-athlete's institution must be a member in good standing of the CRCA.

All-American athletes are selected from those athletes already named First-Team All Region. Criteria considered for selection include: boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements, and 2k erg score. One coxswain is named to each team.
