Blue Crew Takes on Nationally Ranked Williams, William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – In a match-up of nationally ranked crews, No. 8 Wellesley College crew held serve against No. 2 Williams College and No. 10 Williams Smith. The Blue finished second to Williams in both the Varsity Eight (V8+) and Second Varsity Eight (2V8+) races.

The Ephs edged the Blue in a closely contested V8+ race. Wellesley finished with a time of 7:03.98, just off the time of 7:02.73 posted by the top Williams crew. Host Williams Smith followed in third, finishing in 7:05.82. The teams finished in the same order in the 2V8+ event, with Williams taking first (7:25.49), the Blue second (7:32.69) and Williams Smith (8:01.40) third. 

Williams topped the Blue in a head-to-head match-up in the Third Varsity Eight (3V8+) race. The Ephs finished with a time of 7:37.10, ahead of the Wellesley mark of 7:46.83. Wellesley countered with a victory in the Fourth Varsity Eight (4V8+) race, earning the win in 7:51.98. Williams finished the event in 8:16.26.

Wellesley will return home for two days of racing next weekend. The Blue will take on No. 7 Tufts, No. 1 Bates, and No. 5 Wesleyan on the Malden River in Medford, Mass. on Saturday, April 13 before a Sunday regatta with No. 3 WPI, No. 1 Bates, Trinity (Conn.), and No. 11 RIT on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
